Sándor Végh has created something unique in Cornwall, a magical setting for music making
András Schiff

Master classes
The seminars are unique in both their approach and environment, attracting maestri of world standing who encourage traditional values of musicianship and explore the artistic potential of tomorrow’s leading musicians. Master Classes are held each spring for three weeks and up to one hundred participants are involved in each session. String players predominate, but an important part of the course is the "Piano in Chamber Music" class.

Open chamber music
This course takes place every September for three weeks and has been running since 1975. Forty international musicians of the highest level come together each week to sustain Sándor Végh’s original idea of a professor playing with his students. The musicians explore the rich variety of creative combinations which chamber music offers. Participation in the Open Chamber Music Seminar is by invitation and many of the young performers taking part are the most promising players from the previous April’s Master Classes.
"Having been to IMS as a student and a teacher, over 20 years, I cannot think of a better place for holding master classes. The spirit that Sandór Végh instilled has been carried on and I hope we can keep it and pass it on to future generations."
Gerhard Schultz

" The Open Chamber Music weeks are for me the best iin the year. To be able to play with musicians who are at last free from the usual concerts and career restrictions is a great experience. Often new and unusual interpretations emerge from the study of a piece in depth. The magic of Cornwall and the exchanges of ideas and the blossoming of friendships is unique. I wish IMS (also from a very selfish point of view) a very long life
