Autumn Tour

Open Chamber Music Tour 2010

Every year, following Open Chamber Music, a group of musicians specially invited by IMS's Artistic Director Steven Isserlis, take part in a national tour, bringing the work done at IMS to a wider audience.

Tour 2010 - 26th September to 1st October

We are thrilled that this year, the wonderful Mark Padmore is able to take part in our tour. IMS is commissining a new work by composer and violist Atar Arad, who was also one of our professors at the Master Classes earlier this year. He has written a chamber piece for tenor, strings and clarinet, and Atar himself will also be playing in the ensemble. Steven Isserlis has devised an exciting programme to go with this new commission:

Rossini - Duo for cello and double bass
Schumann - Marchenerzahlungen for clarinet, viola, and piano Op.132
Atar Arad - Listen (world premiere)
Faure - La Bonne Chanson
Vaughan-Williams - On Wenlock Edge

The musicians joining Atar Arad and Mark Padmore will be the young American violinists Lily Francis and Laura Lutzke, young British cellist Philip Higham, and some IMS regulars - Lithuanian pianist Ieva Jokubaviciute, British clarinettist Matthew Hunt - who took part in the highly acclained 2007 IMS autumn tour - and the Australian Matthew McDonald will be taking a break from leading double basses in the Berlin Philharmonic to take part. It promises to be an exciting tour!

Sunday 26 September, 2.30pm - Hall for Cornwall, Truro
Monday 27 September, 7.30pm - St George's, Bristol
Tuesday 28 September, 7.30pm - Abbotsholme Arts Society, Staffordshire
Wednesday 29 September, 7.30pm - West Road Concert Hall, Cambridge

The Cambridge concert is being sponsored by Money Matters Cambridge, and the London concert is being sponsored by Ruffer. IMS is extremely grateful for this sponsorship.

Looking back - Tour 2009

The 2009 tour during was a great success with musicians Jennifer Frautschi, Jeremy Denk, David Waterman, Meesun Hong, Nadia Wijzenbeek, Rebecca Albers and Anita Leuzinger performing a wonderful programme of Beethoven, Sibelius and Franck. They started the tour in Truro - rounding off the Cornwall September Concert Series, and proceeded round the country, performing in Cambridge, Champs Hill, Tetbury and finishing at London's Wigmore Hall.

IMS is grateful to the musicians who took part, and to the audiences around the country who gave us a warm reception in every venue, and we hope they will come and support us when we return with another tour!
