Waterman, David
David Waterman studied philosophy for six years at Trinity College, Cambridge, where he was awarded a Research Scholarship and MA and PhD degrees, and was a tutor to final-year philosophy undergraduates.
In 1979 he became a founder member of the Endellion Quartet, now celebrating its thirtieth year. The Quartet has recorded for Warner Classics ( a Beethoven cycle of all the quartets, quintets, fragments and rarities), EMI, Virgin Classics, ASV and others. It is currently Quartet in Residence at Cambridge University, and the RNCM.
David has also performed chamber music with members of the former Amadeus Quartet, Joshua Bell, Michael Collins, Ivry Gitlis, Steven Isserlis, Mark Padmore, Sándor Végh and Tabea Zimmerman, among others.
He has taught at the Yehudi Menuhin School, the Royal Academy of Music, the Guildhall, the MenuhinAcademy at Gstaad, and at Yale and Bloomington in the USA.
He contributed a chapter about quartet playing to the Cambridge Companion to the String Quartet and has had articles published in The Guardian, Strad Magazine, Philosophy in Cambridge, Quodlibet and other publications. He has been a regular visitor to IMS since 1976.
