Riebl, Thomas

Thomas Riebl was born in Viennain 1956. Having been a prizewinner at the International Munich and Budapest Competitions, he won first prize at the International Naumburg viola competition in New York in 1982. His performances worldwide include appearances with the Vienna, Bavarian Radio and Chicago Symphony orchestras, with the Juilliard String Quartet, Gidon Kremer, Sabine Meyer, AndrĂ¡s Schiff, Oleg Maisenberg, Pierre-Laurent Aimard and Jessye Norman. He was a member of the Vienna String Sextet from 1979 to 2004, and since 1983 has been professor at the University Mozarteum Salzburg. He is also artistic director of the Internationale Sommerakademie Bad Leonfelden, Austria and has made numerous recordings for EMI, RCA, panclassics and Hyperion Records.
