Richard Cook was born in Cheltenham in 1947 and spent his early childhood in Ceylon. He studied in London at St Martin’s School of Art and at the Royal College of Art, moving to live in Cornwall in 1985.

He is perhaps best known for his dreamlike evocations of wilderness. His work is represented in various public collections including Tate Collections London, the Arts Council collection and the British Museum Collection. In 2001 he had a solo show at Tate St Ives followed by ‘Under the Summer’ at the Exchange Gallery.

“The random nature of landscape glimpsed from a train window or as one passes in a car. I have always wondered about these places, seen once and never seen again. The painting here came from such an encounter. The glowing beauty of an evening sky, a dying day and a moments drawing in a sketchbook.”

Richard Cook Feb 2017.
