Initially a potter, Clive Blackmore turned to painting full-time in 1984. He was born in Kingston upon Thames, Surrey and attended Twickenham and Kingston Schools of Art. He moved to Cornwall at the age of 26 in 1966.

‘When I painted this canvas I was entranced, as I still am, by the pictures of Jan Pietersz Saenredam especially ‘The Interior of the Grote Kerk at Haarlem’ which is in the National Gallery, London. I took the stillness and the quality of light in his work very much to heart. I hope there is a whisper of his influence in this painting.’

Clive Blackmore is represented by the Lynne Strover Gallery, Cambridge.
